The Hon Richard Marles MP is the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Defence and the Federal Member for Corio. 

Richard was first elected to the House of Representatives as the Member for Corio in 2007. 

Richard‘s previous ministerial appointments include the Minister for Trade and Minister for Employment. 

Richard grew up in Geelong where he still resides with his family. He studied Law and Science at the University of Melbourne. 

Prior to entering Parliament, Richard held a number of Senior Roles at the Transport Workers’ Union and was the Assistant Secretary of the Australian Council of Trade Unions from 2000 – 2007. 

He is a devoted Geelong Cats supporter, golf fanatic and runner, a keen photographer, a snow dome collector and local history enthusiast.
